I was very, very happy to visit the Headquarters of compassionUK in weybridge, surrey in order to hand over a cheque for £1200 just before Christmas. This was an emotional experience as I was told that the money would transform a small project in Equador, where one of the children we sponsor lives. Not only will it give resources to the project but also help to pull our child “Noelia” and her family out of proverty. Truely life changing.
Incredibly a pupil that I was tutor to for 4 years, is now working in the marketing department of this charity. He is from Hong Kong and I taught him Design. After leaving and getting a first class degree in product design with a year at BAE systems working on large ships, he went back to Hong Kong. He did a variety of jobs in design before finding he loved working to help others. He took the job at compassion and turned up at the church that my best man goes to. After being taken out to a small group meeting and going back to his house for Sunday lunch, it is revealed that he was educated in Scotland, with the tutor Andy Cox! They gave me a surprise telephone call and pretty soon I was on the way to catch up again and deliver the above cheque. What a small world, we now have direct access to the charity and are reunited with an old friend who came to our “food and faith group” for many years.
In 2014 we were able to give £2000 overall to compassion, buy a laptop to do designs on, and enough wood to make another few more, 1000 pop ups!
