Pictures are just in of Mr. and Mrs. Pop UP returning to teach! We went back to school last Monday to set a design challenge for all the school!
A Lady on the parent teachers association at St. Mary’s school had started collecting a few pop up cards and thought it would make a great design challenge for the school so contacted us last year and asked if we would come and set a design competition and challenge. We had a lot of fun in front of two groups of pupils, each with 3 classes in. Mr Pop Up lost his voice after the first session of course! All children got to make between two or three pop up cards from a choice of mini cards, A6 cards and postcards and silhouette cards. It was fantastic to see the whole group engrossed in making cards and despite 70 students making at least 250 cards only a few were damaged in pushing out or assembling. We took along a real laser glass tube and a jedi light sabre to show the principles of laser cutting. Many challenging questions about designing were asked and the Headmistress Mrs Heather White and Mr. Pop UP enjoyed singing laser cutting blues or the laser cutter goes buzz, burn burn (to the sound of the wheels on the bus!). All children now have a design challenge to come up with a marketable idea for Scotland or Dunblane area, they will have to draw, make models and draw their ideas on the computer to size. We hope to make the best and sell them with help of the school. What a fun day we had!!
